Magnet-origin evidence pack

Prepared for: Example Motion Co. (fictional) · Scope: three example parts · Reference clause: DFARS 252.225-7052 (clause dated May 2024) · Prepared: 15 October 2026 (example date)

1. Summary

Status by part
Part (fictional)MaterialStages documentedStatus
EM-1001 Rotor magnet assemblyNdFeB4 of 4All stages documented
EM-2040 Position sensorSmCo2 of 4Gaps open
EM-3310 Brake actuatorNdFeB3 of 4Covered country indicated

Status describes the documents received, not whether a part is acceptable. "All stages documented" means a dated document names the facility and country for each stage. It is not a finding of compliance.

2. Stage-by-stage records

EM-1001 Rotor magnet assembly All stages documented

StageFacility (fictional)CountryDocumentStatus
MiningFacility M-1AustraliaD-01Documented
Separation / refiningFacility S-1MalaysiaD-02Documented
Metal & alloyFacility A-1JapanD-03Documented
Magnet productionFacility P-1JapanD-03Documented

Observation: D-01 is dated more than 12 months before the shipment it is cited for. Ask the supplier to confirm it still applies to current lots.

Metal & alloyFacility A-2GermanyD-04Documented
Magnet productionFacility P-2GermanyD-04Documented

Observation: D-04 covers alloying and magnet production only. It says nothing about where the samarium and cobalt feedstock was mined or refined.

4. Open questions for suppliers

  1. Supplier A (EM-1001): Does D-01 still apply to lots shipped after March 2026? If not, please provide a current mine origin statement.
  2. Supplier B (EM-2040): Please identify the facility and country where the samarium and cobalt were mined and refined, with a supporting document.
  3. Supplier C (EM-3310): Please confirm the separation facility named in D-05 and whether an alternative non-covered source is available for future lots.
  4. Supplier C (EM-3310): Please identify the mine of origin for the rare earth feedstock.
